-  I remember hearing somewhere that you can`t shine darkness into light, only light into darkness.  For me, for what has seemed like the longest time, I felt surrounded by an oppressive darkness whose gravitational negativity I could not escape.  What has happened with photography for me, I believe, has saved my life.  I began the practice of carrying my camera with me always, something like a tool but not just for snap shooting - for literally searching out beauty. And I have found it in the strangest of places and in the least suspecting people.  Not just in skyscapes and sunsets but also in the old wise woman Maria with all her wrinkles and sun burned skin, in the crying baby made to endure a haircut and the hanging mortality of the corner butcher.  The wonderful thing is, as long as I keep looking, there`s always more of it.
